the huntley’s

a National portrait gallery commission

In 2022 Sharon Walters was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to create a portrait of race equality campaigners and radical publishers Eric and Jessica Huntley that represents their relationship, the work they did together and their legacy.

This project was of particular importance to Sharon as she attended the Huntley’s Saturday school as a child. She cites them as being a major inspiration to her art practice and life generally.

The work was on display at Gunnersbury Park Museum until October 2023, and goes on display at the National Portrait Gallery in July 2024.
